Kaunas is my beginning and, I hope, the end. In it there started and goes on what is called life.
The war passed as an incomprehensible dream. Then there was a hungry, ragged childhood of a postwar boy and the temporary lot of an orphan, the rights of existence gained with the fists in the dirty streets of the Green Hill district.
There flew my youth that looked for its rights and that found the first and the last love.
This town in green trousers was favourable to the creative work as there live the citizens of Lithuania who are always discontent with everything, like to fight for their rights and who are the initiators of various revolutions. Even today the freedom for them is insufficient, imperfect, and insubstantial.
My creative work is also imperfect. However, nothing can be improved there. Maybe the heroes of my photos will forgive me that I mocked the social past and, alas, the present. It is too late to correct the mistakes – there is waiting behind the door the date of my fate – 70.
